Although we are not taught to learn we do it instinctively. At the age of seven, we go to school and continue to learn instinctively because we have no &#x201C;learning&#x201D; class. We learn many subjects besides how to learn. The meaning of learning given by the dictionary is:<\/p><p>&#x201C;<em>der Erwerb von Wissen oder F\u00e4higkeiten durch Studium, Erfahrung oder Unterricht.<\/em>&#x201D;<\/p><p>2. Die Bedeutung, die ein kognitiver Neurowissenschaftler, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanislas_Dehaene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stanislas Dehaene<\/a>, is:<\/p><p>&#x201C;<em>zu lernen bedeutet, ein internes Modell der Au\u00dfenwelt zu bilden. Any further explanations would be redundant.<\/p><p>The relevant questions here would be: <strong>how do we acquire the knowledge? how do we store it?<\/strong> <\/p><h2><a id=\"learning-by-cognitive-science\"><\/a>Die Bedeutung des Lernens aus Sicht der Kognitionswissenschaft<\/h2><p>A partial response comes from the definition of Stanislas Dehaene. When it comes to learning, we create an internal model of the external world. This does not refer to how we perceive the outside world, the world is perceived differently by each of us because it is created in our mind, by our mind. &#xA0;It refers to how we store knowledge and information about the world. All of them knew that the earth was round, but when they were asked to make a graphical representation of it, they draw a circle, not a sphere. Or they said: &#x201C;the earth is round like a pie&#x201D;.<\/p><p>Some of them had imagined the earth round but flat and this is such a wrong internal model. In such cases, the internal model has to be corrected.<\/p><h2>The meaning of <a id=\"learning-by-neuroscience\"><\/a>learning by neuroscience<\/h2><p>Let&#x2019;s now look at the meaning of learning in neuroscience.<\/p><p>The brain is made up of distinct nerve cells. The brain cells are called neurons and we have approximately 86 billion of them. Those neurons are not standalone but are interconnected (Cajal&#x2019;s discovery in 1906 for which he took the Nobel prize) with other neurons, by up to 40,000 individual connections, forming neuron networks.&#xA0;<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/automated-training.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Experts-links-knowledge-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Experts links knowledge\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"\/><\/p><p>A connection between two neurons is called a synapse. Multiplying the two above numbers results in the number of all possible neurons connections in the brain. This is higher than there are stars in the universe. Could you now imagine what means, in neuroscience, that we do not use our brain at full capacity? ( we don&#x2019;t manage to create all possible neurons connections).<\/p><h4><a id=\"learning-in-the-brain\"><\/a>How learning takes place in the brain<\/h4><p>Es ist wichtig, sich diese Zahl vorzustellen, denn <strong>neurons&#x2019; connections are the key to learning<\/strong>Wenn wir neue Dinge oder F\u00e4higkeiten lernen, bilden wir neue Synapsen zwischen den Neuronen. Those are the brain changes that appear while learning takes place. At this point I think is crucial to explain how the synapses evolve from young ages till maturity.<\/p><h4><a id=\"evolution-of-synapses\"><\/a>Evolution of synapses<\/h4><p>You would now be tempted to think that we are born with fewer connections and we create them while we grow old and learn things. It is considered that at the age of four the forest of neurons reaches its maximum. And then according to the principle &#x201C;if you don&#x2019;t use it you lose it&#x201D;, the synapses that are not used disappear, in the process called pruning. Those that are used are reinforced and further developed (now it makes sense why children learn more easily languages).<\/p><p>The synaptic connections changes according to what it begins to know, remember and recognize. The same happens also with the connections of the neurons in adults. The networks that are not reactivated in the process of recalling the knowledge lose connections and in course of time, the information will be forgotten.&#xA0; And this is how forgetting takes place in the brain.&#xA0;<\/p><h4><a id=\"memory\"><\/a>Memory<\/h4><p>Let&#x2019;s see now how memory is involved in the process. And here contribute some factors like <a href=\"http:\/\/automated-training.com\/de\/learning-more-in-less-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">die Zeit,<\/a> die wir einer Lernsitzung widmen, <a href=\"http:\/\/automated-training.com\/de\/learn-to-pay-attention\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aufmerksamkeit<\/a> f\u00fcr die gelernten Informationen, wie schnell die neu gelernten Informationen angewandt\/erfahren werden, wie schnell und wie oft die Informationen aus dem Ged\u00e4chtnis abgerufen werden und wie das Gehirn bei der Bildung der neuen Schaltkreise unterst\u00fctzt wird.<\/p><p>Sie haben bestimmt schon von der Assoziation als unterst\u00fctzende Methode f\u00fcr das Lernen neuer Dinge geh\u00f6rt. Wenn wir ein neues Prinzip oder einen neuen Sachverhalt, den wir lernen wollen, mit einem bereits bekannten assoziieren, aktivieren wir die neuronalen Schaltkreise, die die alten Informationen enthalten, und bilden gleichzeitig den neuen Schaltkreis f\u00fcr die neuen Informationen. So verkn\u00fcpfen wir den neuen Schaltkreis mit dem alten und schaffen Stabilit\u00e4t.<\/p><p>Remembering is also pretty much dependent on what we are learning. If we learn a skill, the best learning is repetition, practicing that skill as often as possible.<\/p><p>But is repetition the only key ingredient to learning?&#xA0;<\/p><p>There are some basic steps that support efficient learning, they are generally described in <a href=\"http:\/\/automated-training.com\/de\/the-4-pillars-of-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">den 4 Lerns\u00e4ulen
